KIS Curriculum Description – American Curriculum

At Knowledge International School, the Educational Program is designed to meet our Mission and Vision. Our program is not only academic, but focuses on students as individuals, and includes parent involvement at all levels. It also reflects the UAE national identity, integrates real-life connections and international mindedness.

The school is guided by the California State Learning Standards and Next Generation Science Standards and follows the Ministry Programs for Arabic Language, Arabic Social Studies, Moral Education, and Islamic Studies (for both Arab and Non-Arab learners). To ensure a quality education, the instructional process — including how the curriculum is devised and delivered, is constantly monitored, and updated. Experienced highly qualified teaching staff, ongoing professional development, use of relevant technologies, and the monitoring and observation of teaching staff is vital to ensure successful teaching and learning.

All curricular areas meet the standards of the government, and all curricular areas are aligned with professional expectations for the specific content area.

Essential to a quality student experience is the instructional process—including how the curriculum is devised, monitored, updated, and delivered

The educational program is the primary focus of the school. Included in the educational program is the curriculum development and pedagogy—what a school does in the instructional process. The program is regularly validated by both internal and external assessments of student learning. The course goals and instructional practices, of all curricular areas, reflect and support the school’s mission.

Our competence driven, diverse curriculum is designed to follow accepted standards (local, governmental, and international). Strands, standards, learning outcomes, assessments, projects given, co-curricular, extra-curricular activities, technology integration, collaborative planning…all are crucial layers of our curriculum. Its design is based on different aspects to cover all areas of learning, knowledge, and students’ achievements and attainments. Our teachers review and edit any curriculum area termly to keep track of students’ performance and needs. They demonstrate the ability to assist all students to achieve the learning objectives in each subject at each grade level. They also provide specific interventions for students who are above or below grade-level expectations.

Formative and summative assessments are used to guide the instructional process.
External assessments are used to validate the performance of students in comparison to national and/or international norms.
